Mount Redoubt erupts Saturday

Seismologists said the explosion was nearly as large as any that occurred when the volcano was last active for 4 months in late 1989 and early 1990. The ash cloud drifted to the southeast. The towns of Seldoviz, Homer and Anchor Point on the Kenai Peninsula received a light dusting, according to the National Weather Service.

This eruption also caused a slurry flow of ash, melted snow and hot rocks. What an awesome event.

Katie is on a kayaking adventure in Resurrection Bay in Alaska this weekend. I imagine the views are amazing. May the ash cloud and fall be directed away from her part of Alaska and all Alaskan residents be safe.
