Paddling again on Monday

Great morning today.. Sunny, cool, a breeze from the south... good coffee, toast and a short shift in receiving. Clouding up some now and there is low thunder in the distance, maybe some rain later. I stopped at the store and got dome lids for canning some spicy tomato sauce tomorrow, using up some tomatoes and peppers. Cinnamon, allspice, cloves and nutmeg in this old fashioned relish type sauce... it will be fun and smell good while it simmers.

Yesterday, Peggy and I went to Rabbit Lake, east of Brainerd to Riverton. Putting in at the public landing, we headed out on the semi-narrow lake
and to the channel connecting it to the Mississippi. Fabulous weather, sunny but not too hot, great scenery and calm waters. We navigated the channel, one of my favorite things to paddle, and had to pull over a couple times to let powerboats through, there were a lot of fishermen out looking for sunnies. Out the the river and heading north, we passed this old fishing or bird hunting stand, must have been some good times out on this! Again, great scenery on the river as we paddled a mile or more upstream, so the current would assist our paddling back.

Finding the channel back to Rabbit Lake, the waters were even more calm and scenic. A few boats were pulled over in it, must be some good fishing holes there.

Peggy liked the reflections in the water and took a couple pictures capturing how beautiful it all is back in this place. Turtles on fallen logs, fish swimming and making whirls in the water, kingfishers overhead, made it a grand adventure.

We spotted a heron standing like we couldn't see it, and could not resist paddling back into the weeds to look also at this muskrat house. Wild rice was falling around us and into our kayaks as we slowly inched back into the brush, nice to have no biting bugs here!

We loaded up the craft and gear and headed back to Brainerd for supper. I dug beets and Peggy picked green beans for supper... so fresh and good, we had them with a zucchini omelet. A perfect hearty but light meal.

Great times for a Labor Day week and weekend, we both wished that it would never end.

Gardening and housework, organizing and catching up some is on the agenda this week, still having fun and maybe a few tennis sessions.

Great time of year for Life and Love to grow in many ways.

Peace!
