Beautiful Day and Road Trip

Perfect day for an early morning start of a road trip. Very little traffic, sunshine, fresh air and fabulous greening scenery all the way to Duluth.
I knew that stopping first in Duluth would feel so good and be so much fun that going to Twin Points Landing for rock picking may not happen. So past Duluth and 22 miles or so north to Twin Points Landing. 2 kayakers were heading north along the shore.. great thing to see on arrival. Then the "homeland security" sign added some humor, but I did stay on guard, ready to call the 800 number if I saw anything suspicious... oh yeah!

The Winters wind and waves brought fresh pickin's to the shore and it wasn't long before the pail was almost full of unique and pretty rocks for garden decor and heavy basalt flat rocks for "hot stone" therapy.

This picture is amazing in that the large chunk of rock, on the shore, under the 2 white post to the right up above, must have recently fallen. How many times have I sat and dug around under it looking for rocks and just looking out onto the clear lake from inside the cave-like space under it with Katie and Charlie. Wow, we could have been smooshed! The grass and trees from on top of it are still fresh, so this must have just happened.

Had to go into the Lake Shipping Museum (not the correct name) at the Arial Bridge in Canal Park to see some displays. This is the descriptive plaque that identified the large, heavy tool box that I have in my living room. I knew it was a tool box of some kind, my Father had it in his workshop and garage since I can remember, given to him by an old man that lived down the alley from my childhood home in north Minneapolis. It was here that Charlie found, years ago, the mate to it on display. I had stripped off the old ugly black paint, and refinished it with varnish to make it into a furniture piece, not knowing it's history. Sliding compartments inside held a variety of boat building tools... a real piece of history. I have it under my living room window with plants on it now, and always like to look at the original, nearly identical one on display here when I get to Duluth.

Too soon though, it was time to drive home to Brainerd. West and into the warming Sun, again almost no traffic... the trees and all roadside growth had budded, blossomed and gotten more green just since the morning... amazing!

A very relaxing late evening before bed... so grateful for the day of beauty, exploring and discovery up north. I slept like a rock with many pleasant thoughts warming my soul through the night.

I am going to do a few things in the yard today and some housework, but not too much, I want to have quiet time to remember yesterday and feel good direction in my life.

Until I post again, may Peace and Wonderment fill our Spring days of all growth!
