A Day at the State Fair

How much fun can a couple have at the Minnesota State Fair?.... we found out. Arriving at the gate about 8, it was nice to wake up with the booths opening, the smell of coffee and fried onions starting the morning.... absolutely fabulous.

We posed by some chainsaw art, many works started, some finished and for sale on Machinery Hill. I got to finally see up close, a new Harley Davidson "Cross Bones" model, sit on it and daydream for a few moments... (it was a perfect fit too)

The cool morning made it perfect for sampling some of the special foods.

For openers, we shared a basket of fried green tomatoes and corn fritters with a ranch dressing of some kind... delicious.

Then we found a corner booth that had hot fresh fudge brownies and shared one with coffee... oh yeah, the morning was off to a glorious start.

We sauntered through the Horticulture Building, looking at the floral displays, a prize winning 1100+ lb. pumpkin, and all the other displays. We enjoyed the bee keepers wing and all the honey. We bought a fresh slab of honey comb to have with my bread. This was our favorite rose out of many on show.

Heritage Square had a concert we wanted to hear, and we found great seats just as it was about to begin. The Accordion Cafe~ Orchestra played French Cafe~ music, one polka and a couple other humorous renditions of old classics. People danced, sang along with one and had a great time.
These guys were fantastic!

Walking around, people watching and getting our WCCO tote bags, we gathered brochures and some free stuff. The Fairgrounds were in very tidy order, lots of great gardens and fun displays everywhere.

We had to ride the Space Needle to the top and look down at the Fair from high above. A great deal at $3. We were starting to get some Sun on our cheeks for sure in the cool, perfect weather.
I had never been on this ride before, and remember it from many years ago. We also went through the Fair Museum, a little hard to find, but well worth it. A couple train cars from the old Midway attractions, lots of history and stuff from many years ago were a hoot to look at.

I'm having a dessert called the "Uf Da". A krumkake cup filled with cheesecake pudding topped with caramel sauce and toasted pecans. Glad we were walking all this off, it was decadent indeed. We also had 3 different kinds of chocolate dipped licorice, cheese curds, Australian Potatoes that were awesome and a few other treats as we hiked from building to building. Looked at horses, chickens and ducks, cows. Went into the 4H Building, DNR, Fine Arts and the newer Eco Building showing solar and wind powered technology. What a day!

Very light traffic for our ride home with the setting Sun.... it was a perfect and very romantic day.

Back to Brainerd, work and reality after spending an entire day enjoying all that Minnesota has to offer, feeling like a couple of teens.

Peace!

hey it looks like a lot of fun at the fair, and a good blog. Still, you missed some good photo ops, I was exitedly looking forward to a picture of you trying out the cross bones, or/and a picture of an 1100 lb. pumpkin- how often do you see one of those? I saw a cart just like yours the other day. He was hauling two kids, not dogs. Later
